Foreshadow: Veszprém – Szeged

Telekom Veszprém hosts MOL-Pick Szeged in the first game of the final of the K&H League in Veszprém Arena. The derby starts at 3:45 p.m. and it is broadcasted live by M4 Sport from 3:00 p.m.

 

 

The two teams will be playing their 4th game this season. So far Szeged won 1 while Veszprém won 2 out of 3 games this year. The first game was in October, in Szeged, where Veszprém suffered a 26:23 loss. The second occasion was held in Veszprém Arena and Veszprém took revenge and won. The final result was 24:22 which meant that the two parties performed nearly the same and the goal difference between them decided Szeged to be the regular season winner. Their third clash was a nail biter. They played in Debrecen in the Hungarian Cup final and Veszprém managed to win by Aron Palmarsson's last second penalty, winning the Cup yet again.

 

Szeged finished the VELUX EHF Champions League Group phase in the third place. They grabbed 8 wins and a draw from 16 matches and it was enough for them to qualify for the best 16 where they played against Bjerringbro Silkeborg. The Danish champion was not a problem for the Hungarians and they marched on to the best 8 with a back-to-back win. Szeged had to face French super power PSG to reach the Final4 but no matter the great performance they dropped out. After the 3 goal home loss only a draw came in Paris and it was not enough. Top scorers in the CL: Zsolt Balogh with 88, Jonas Kallman with 70 and Sergei Gorbok with 69 goals.

 

 

In the Hungarian championship Szeged played 26 games and lost only to Veszprém. Their regular season first place was determined by the above mentioned system.

 

Last time the „Építők” played was in the Hungarian league against Orosháza and won 28:21 bringing out a very young squad.
