Foreshadow: Veszprém – Szeged

 Since MKB-MVM Veszprém took part in SEHA League and missed the Hungarian Championship’s regular season, we had to wait a long time for a title bout against the main opponent, MOL-Pick Szeged. Their first playoff is held on Saturday at 6 pm in Veszprém Arena. Live broadcast on Duna World.

 

 

Last year “Építők” successfully obtained champions title in two matches, once in a home game (30:21), and once in Szeged (24:28).

 

Last time these two teams clashed in the Kinizsi Bank Super Cup final before which we have already introduced the team of Szeged. In that game MKB-MVM Veszprém had a confident victory in Veszprém Arena (33:24). Gasper Margus was chosen as best player with his 8 goals and Roland Mikler was the best goalkeeper.

 

 

In 2014-15 season - when Veszprém was absent - Szeged won the regular season of Hungarian Championship with 19 victories and 1 defeat out of 20 matches. They lost point only in Csurgó against a team which ended up in the second place of the table behind Szeged only with 2 point difference.

 

They got into group D in Champions League and they finally ended up behind Kielce with 6 victories, 1 draw and 3 defeats. After the group round in the draw they got the third team of Veszprém’s group, Rhein-Neckar Löwen as opponent team and they performed great and won twice so that they could qualify to the best 8. They are facing the German THW Kiel. In CL their most productive player is Zsolt Balogh who is the most successful player in the group with his 68 goals.

 

 

In the Saturday match MOL-Pick Szeged’s player, Jonas Källman will not able to play because he was operated on for his appendicitis this week. It went well but it is not certain when he can be back on court.

 

Both teams prepared for the clash with glorious victory. MKB-MVM Veszprém won in Orosháza (25:38), and Szeged defeated Tatabánya (33:19).

 

Bakony squad has been through a really hard month, they had 11 games in March. Our triumph in SEHA Gazprom League’s tournament was a perfect way to end this burdensome period. As Andreas Nilsson says in the following interview, this victory gave confidence and strength for the upcoming challenges, firstly for the game against MOL-Pick Szeged this Saturday.
