Foreshadow: Veszprém - Szeged final

On Saturday 6 pm the MKB-MVM Veszprém is going to play against its big rival MOL-Pick Szeged in the Hungarian Championship Finals' first game in Veszprém. The foreshadow article of Tamás Donát can be read in the follows.

 

 

This is the 70th Veszprém-Szeged match

 

The championship’s major game begins in the ’town of queens’. The most successful male handball club is playing for its 23rd triumph. This is an incredible, barely unrepeatable achievement. Zoltán Lang’s statistics shows that the clashes between Veszprém and Szeged have a history since this will be their 70th clash in the capital of the county. Out of those matches there were only 3 guest victories. With regard to championship games, the team of “Tisza-part” was able to gain triumph only twice out of 58 matches.

 

Thus, it is not surprising that this time fans would bet on MKB-MVM Veszprém’s victory this weekend as well as in the final game. However, what causes a bit uncertainty is the question whether the squad of Carlos Ortega is able to win against Szeged again after two winnings. If they are, then they do not have to play a third match for the first place. But the devil never sleeps! Szeged always won unexpectedly in Veszprém. Especially in 1992 when Veszprém was expected to win the Hungarian Cup, but Richárd Mezei and his team triumphed instead. The defeats in the renewed sports hall resulted in losing the gold medal.

 

All in all, this excessive optimism and recklessness can be followed by a huge surprise. Sometimes the fixed hard work involves mistakes. The two teams cannot show anything new to each other, not even new tactics. The team which has stronger and more prepared players will succeed obviously. The one which wants the gold medal more wins. Either fans or the team cannot get enough of gold celebrations in Veszprém.
