Foreshadow: Veszprém – Sporting

 

Telekom Veszprém will host Sporting CP on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in the second leg of the eight final of the VELUX EHF Champions League with a two-goal lead. The game will be broadcasted live by Sport 1.

 

 

Sporting started the two team’s first ever European cup game last Sunday. The Portuguese team, supported by their enthusiastic fans, grabbed the game in their hands right from the first minute, and although Veszprém could come back many times they could not get the lead, and Sporting went on to the break with a one-goal, 15:14 lead. The Portuguese domination continued in the second half with the Hungarian running after the score. This running payed off, as in the 23rd minute Manaskov took the lead for Veszprém with two empty netters. From this moment on, as the home head coach, Hugo Canela said after the game: “with Veszprém’s experience, they won”.

 

Sporting faced an upper house clash against Belenenses this week, which was considered the most important game of the week by coach Hugo Canela on our opponent’s official website, because this game is very important to be able to claim the Portuguese championship once again. Well, the victory was never in danger, as Sporting confidently won 20:34 keeping the leading position still.

 

 

Telekom Veszprém has a tough week behind them, because they played in Lisbon on Sunday, then again in Komló within 48 hours, travelling nearly 6500 kilometers in-between. Fortunately, the exhaustion of travelling did not show on the performance of the team, as they bagged both games. 28:30 against Sporting and 17:31 against Komló.

 

Veszprém starts the second leg of the eight final of the Champions League with a two-goal lead, which is not much against a fighting team that has nothing to lose. Our opponent can play freely, without any pressure, unless, our Supporters put the pressure on them. Cheer for the team louder than ever, as they will need this fantastic atmosphere to be able to claim their goals, reaching the quarterfinals.
