Telekom Veszprém faces Skjern Handbold again on Saturday. The second leg of the VELUX EHF Champions League will take place in the Veszprém Arena at 5:30 p.m. The game is broadcasted live by Sport 1 from 5:00 p.m.
The situation of Telekom Veszprém is not so bright, as they have made their own job harder on last Sunday’s Champions League game against Skjern. The 32:25 loss there means that they have to win by at least eight goals, or by seven while conceding fewer goals than we scored in Denmark. Another huge question is whether Skjern can still play without any pressure, or on the contrary, they have the pressure of achieving something great.
On the last game, Skjern played well and dominated almost the entire match. We made a lot of mistakes, which showed in turnovers and in missed chances, furthermore, our defense was not tight enough. This paired with a great goalkeeper performance by Emil Nielsen, who showed us why is he considered as the biggest talent in Danish handball. At the postgame press conference, Ljubomir Vranjes said: “I am a little bit ashamed – I have to say – for our performance today and I am not satisfied at all.” Naturally, the coach of the opposition was not so gloomy after the match and said: “Obviously we are proud for what we did today. We beat one of the best teams in Europe.” The team has a week to get themselves together and deal with the disappointing result of Sunday, also to prepare for the weekend and to give one of the best, if not the best performance of the season.
Meanwhile, Skjern is still on second place in the Danish league, trailing by one point to GOG. Behind them is Silkeborg, who has three points deficit to the second place. Our next opponent played 25 games in the domestic league and won 19 times, while drawing and losing 3 times each. They only lost to Sönderjyske and Silkeborg twice. Last time they played was on Saturday, against Midtjylland who are on the 13th place. The final result was 21:27 for Skjern. Their top scorer on that game was Eivind Tangen, who finished the match with seven goals.
We have already mentioned the last game of “Építők”, before that, they played in the Hungarian league on 18 March in Komló. The game ended in a 32:24 victory for Veszprém, where Cristian Ugalde scored 8 times, while Gasper Marguc and Iman Jamali scored 5 goals each.
The boys need the support from our Fans more than ever, because the deficit is bigger than ever. None of the visiting teams can be sure in the Veszprém Aréna, not even with the seven goals advantage. The “Építők” is capable of advancing even from deficit this big. For this, they will need every player to give the best, and to fight for each other as a team.
Let’s go Veszprém!
