Telekom Veszprém welcomes the Danish Bjerringbro-Silkeborg’s team on Saturday at 5PM. Live broadcast on Sport1 from 5PM.
The Danish champion has played twice in the elite European league so far. The have lost 10 matches out of 10 and dropped out of the group stage in season 2011/12 but after one year in season 2012/13 they got o the eighth finals and won 4 matches out of 12. Veszprém met Silkeborg in 2011 and they also won two matches against them. They won for 32:25 on home court and for 25:19 away.
The Slovenian Skube said the followings: ’I have played in Veszprém several times but it was always hard. Veszprém is one of the world’s most powerful teams and their fans are also very passionate. In Denmark cheering is very different because only a handful of people support our team and not five thousand.’
The team of Silkeborg has changed a bit because four players left the team but another 4 joined it. A well-known player, Mads Christiansen, left the team. He was an Olympian champion with the Danish National Team and he certified to Magdeburg’s team, which is in the Bundesliga. The new players are Sebastian Franden from Ribe-Esbjerg, Kasper Olsen from Aarhus, Jacob Lassen from Randers and Rasmus Kier from the development squad of the team. Another interesting thing is that they have only foreign player, who is the Slovenian Sebastian Skube and the others are all Danish players.
Silkeborg shows its last year’s form in this year’s Danish championship. They are on the first place in a dead heat with Aarhus’s team on 888Ligaen’s table. They played their last year’s rematch on their last championship game. They welcomed Holstebro’s team and after an exciting second half they managed to defeat them for 34:33. Markussen and Skube were the best goal scorers on this match with 7 goals each. Sebastian Skube said the followings about the match: ’It was a very important victory to us but we also have to learn a lot. We need to prepare well mentally because it is not enough to play a good halftime in the Champions League.’
They played in the Champions League 5 times and out of it they won 2 games and lost 3. Flensburg, Kiel and Paris could defeat them, however they won against Schaffhausen and Wisla Plock. On the last 5 matches Nikolaj Markussen and Johan Hanssen scored 26-26 goals while Sebastian Skube and Damgaard Espersen scored 17-17 goals. Kristian Klitgaard follows them with 14 goals.
’In order to get a minimal chance against Veszprém everyone needs to play well and Veszprém needs to have a bad day. Of course we will have a hard time against them’- said Skube.
Telekom Veszprém played a Champions League match on 22, October. They got defeated in Barcelona with 3 goals, the result was 26:23. They also welcomed Meshkov Brest’s team on Tuesday in the SEHA League and they managed to win with only 1 goal, so the result was 31:30.
Victory would be very important on Saturday because if Veszprém wins they would precede Flensburg and if PSG loses (they will welcome Barcelona on home court) „Építők” would be on the second place in a dead heat!
Go on, Veszprém!
