Telekom Veszprém will play in the VELUX EHF Champions League once again on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. against Montpellier HB. The game was nominated as Match of the Week by the EHF and it will be broadcasted by Sport 1.
The first game did not start easy for us because in the first ten minutes the home team took the advantage but fortunately only with one goal each time. Veszprém turned the game around after that and managed to get a two goals lead. The Hungarian record champions got tired by the end of the half which caused that the home team could go to the intermission with the lead. Montpellier remained in the lead until the middle of the half just as Veszprém, they started to fight with fatigue and made many technical mistakes. Veszprém dominated the remaining of the game although the end became a bit exciting. The French side managed to even the game three and a half minutes before the end, but Borut Mackovsek decided the game with his goal a minute before the game. The result was a 29:30, out of which Andreas Nilsson scored five.
Our next opponent still could not find their rhythm in the Champions League. They are in the last spot in our group with a victory, a draw and seven losses. They could win against Löwen, while their draw came from that Kristianstad which happened to beat them 30:31 in the latest round in France. Their top scorer is Melvyn Richardson with 54 goals.
They are currently on fifth position in the French league but there is heavy traffic in front of them. The leader Nantes has 20 points, while behind them Chambery, PSG and Nimes has 19. Montpellier won eight games so far, while losing and drawing once. They played against Chambery on Wednesday, 22:29. Montpellier’s top scorer in the domestic league is Melvyn Richardson with 63 goals.
The “Építők” played on Wednesday as well, when they travelled to HE-DO B.Braun Gyöngyös in the K&H League. After a shaky start Veszprém managed to bring home the two points with a 23:34 victory. In the Champions League they played against Rhein-Neckar Löwen the last time, and with a great performance the Reds won 25:29.
