Telekom Veszprém hosts SG Flensburg-Handewitt in the VELUX EHF Champions League on Saturday. The game starts at 5:30 p.m. and it is broadcasted live on Sport 1 from 4:45 p.m.
Ljubomir Vranjes’s former team comes to Veszprém which makes the already interesting game a bit spicier. It is proven by the history between the two teams because from 8 encounters 4 was won by Veszprém and 3 was won by Flensburg. Besides this the two teams played a draw in the opening game of the 2016/2017 CL season in Germany. The final result was 24:24 that time. In the second leg, at home we managed to beat them 34:28. On that game Momir Ilic scored 9 goals, while Andreas Nilsson, László Nagy, Máté Lékai and Gasper Marguc scored 5 goals each.
The Germans went on to the quarter finals in last year’s Champions League series where they were knocked out by the later winner Vardar Skopje with a back-to-back win. Their top scorers in the season behind us was Andreas Eggert and Hampus Wanne with 50 goals each. This year they started out great with a 30:27 win over Alborg. Holger Glandorf scored 8 goals on that game.
Over the summer they signed Rasmus Lind from TTH Holstebro, Simon Jeppsson from Lugi Lund, Marius Steinhauser from Rhein-Neckar Löwen and Magnus Rød from Baekkelaget Handball Elite. Ljubomir Vranjes’s departure has already been mentioned, besides him Andreas Eggert left to Skjern, Bogdan Radivojevic signed with Löwen, Petar Djordic went to Meshkov Brest while Johan Jakobsson agreed to terms with Savehof. Maik Machulla was appointed as new head coach of the team.
Flensburg currently stands on the 3rd position in the Bundesliga. They won 4 games out of 6 and suffered 2 defeats. They lost to Hannover and Leipzig, however they managed to beat the fresh champion Löwen. The last time they stepped on the court was on Thursday, where they won 30:25 against Melsungen. Their top scorer in this championship is Holger Glandorf who scored 42 goals in 5 games. Just right behind him is Rasmus Lauge Schmidt with 42 goals also.
The last time “Építők” played was in the Hungarian league on Tuesday against Gyöngyös and achieved a flawless victory of 39:19. In the Champions League we played against Celje last Saturday. The result was 39:31 and as we can see from the pregame statements the boys would like to continue this great series on home court.
We would like to inform our Supporters that the game is only free of charge under the age of 7 and only if the child is not taking any seats but watches the game from their parent's lap. Thank you for your understanding!
Let’s go Veszprém!
