Telekom Veszprém hosts RK Celje Pivovarna Lasko in the VELUX EHF Champions League’s last group game on Saturday. The match will start at 5:30 p.m., Sport 1 will start broadcasting 5:15 p.m.
Veszprém must win and collect 2 points against Celje in order to secure the second position in the group. We have already met with our next opponent twice this season, although the first one was a friendly game in our preparation tournament over the summer. The second game was in the first round of the CL in Celje in the Zlatorog Arena. The game ended in a 31:39 win in our favor. Ziga Mlakar and Máté Lékai finished the game with 9 goals each, being the top scorers of the game.
Celje is currently at 4th position in the SEHA League. They played 19 games so far and won 9 matches while ending in a draw twice and losing 4 times. Last time they played on Wednesday against Dinamo Pancevo where they won 39:25. Ziga Mlakar is the top scorer of the team with 59 goals, behind him is Tilen Kondrin with 46. Interesting fact, that the line player Igor Anic is at 85,3% efficiency, which puts him in the league’s second place in this statistic.
Our next opponent cannot advance to the best 16 teams in the Champions League as they are trailing the 6th position by 3 points. In their 13 games so far, they won 3 times, while losing 9 times and achieving a draw. Their victorious games were against Kielce, Kiel and Aalborg. They conceded the most goals, 405 to be exact, out of any teams in the group. Their top scorers in the series are Ziga Mlakar with 48 and Gal Marguc with 46 goals.
The “Építők” played and won in Eger the last time in the K&H league. At the game ending in 26:31 Gajic scored 8, Tonnesen scored 6 and Nilsson scored 5 goals. In the Champions League they played in Flensburg last week and finished the game in a thrilling 31:31 draw, making a huge step towards the second position of the group. Our top scorers in Germany were our Slovenian right wings Gasper Marguc and Dragan Gajic with 5 goals each.
An important match awaits for the record champion on Saturday. This is going to be our last game in the group phase this season and our place in the group will determine which teams we are going to face for the biggest goal, Cologne.
Let’s go Veszprém!
