Telekom Veszprém hosts HC Meshkov Brest on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. in the VELUX EHF Champions League. The game will be broadcasted live by Sport 1 from Veszprém Arena.
The first encounter of the two teams brought a dramatic outcome, as Darko Djukic could have saved the game to a draw with his overtime penalty at a one-goal Veszprém lead. Of course, Roland Mikler thought differently and saved the penalty, securing the two points. The top scorer of the game was Manuel Strlek with six goals.
Brest is currently at fourth place in the SEHA League and is in a tight battle for the Final4 with Tatran Presov. The Slovaks are only three points behind. Our next opponent played fifteen games so far and won ten times while losing five times. Last time they played was on Tuesday against Vojvodina, where they won 35:19. Their top scorers in the competition are Darko Djukic and Maxim Baranau with 44 goals each.
The Belarusian champions are currently at seventh place in their Champions League group, tied with Montpellier. There will be a fierce fight at the end of the group for the advancing positions. Brest could win three times this season, while losing eight times and finishing once in a draw. Out of their three victories, two could be considered as a surprise, as in the second round they have beaten the titleholder Montpellier, while in the latest round they won against the German powerhouse Rhein-Neckar Löwen. They also managed to beat Kristianstad in the first round of the group. Their top scorers in the Champions League are Darko Djukic and Alexander Shkurinskiy with 46 goals each.
Telekom Veszprém played on Tuesday as well, when they travelled to Balatonfüred in the K&H League. The final result of the game was 29:32, from which Manuel Strlek took his part with eight goals. This was the 14th consecutive win of “Építők”. Our last game in the Champions League was a brilliant win against Vardar, mostly with the performance the guys gave in the second half.
