Foreshadow: Veszprém – Brest

 

Telekom Veszprém hosts HC Meshkov Brest in the VELUX EHF Champions League on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in the Veszprém Arena. The game will be broadcasted by Sport 1 from 5:00 p.m.

 

 

A familiar opponent will play in Veszprém on Saturday, as we have had many encounters with with Brest in the SEHA League. There were occasions when we could only beat them in a penalty shootout in our 3 seasons there.

 

This season we did not have such a close game, as in the 3rd round of the group we beat them 26:29 in Belarus. Top scorer of our team was Máté Lékai with 8 goals while from our opponent Petar Djordjic scored 7. This was the first encounter of the teams in any European Cup series, which makes our history there 1:0 for us.

 

Brest is leading the Belarus championship by 1 point before SKA Minsk. They played 18 games and won 15 times, while achieving 2 draws and losing once.

 

 

In the SEHA League Brest is currently at 3rd place behind Vardar Skopje and PPD Zagreb. They played 14 games so far and won 9 times while losing 4 times and playing a draw. Their 4 defeats come from Vardar and Metalurg Skopje, Celje and Velenje. Their top scorer in the league is Petar Djordjic with 56 goals. Interesting fact, that the two goalkeepers of Brest are topping the goalie table. Ivan Pesic is the first with 37,2% while Ivan Matskevich is second with 35% save efficiency.

 

Our next opponent is at 6th place in the Champions League group B. They won 3 times, drawn twice while losing 6 times out of 11 games. They managed to win against Kielce, Aalborg and Celje. Their top scorer in this league is Petar Djordjic as well, with 43 goals.

 

The “Építők” played in the Hungarian championship last weekend, when they confidently won against Váci KSE, 42:21. In the Champions League they played against Kiel on last Wednesday and lost 22:20. On that game Manaskov and Marguc scored 4 goals each.
