Foreshadow: Veszprém – Bregenz

 

The Hungarian champion Telekom Veszprém will host Austrian side, Bregenz Handball on Wednesday at 18:00 in Veszprém Arena. Entrance to the game will be free of charge with Fan cards and season tickets.

 

 

Bregenz finished the regular season of last year’s Austrian championship on fifth place with eight victories, four draws and six losses our of 18 games. Behind him, Aon Fivers and Schwaz only trailed by one point, but finally Bregenz continued in the upper house of the league. There, they could not do much damage and won two games only, while losing six times. However, they still qualified for the eightfinals, where they faced the third team of the upper house, West Wien. The best of three clash ended in a Wien victory by winning two games in a row.

 

Our next opponent marched all the way to the ÖHB Cup final. Being a seeded team, they only joined the cup in the eightfinals and until the semifinal they played against Bruck, Aon Fivers and Schwaz consecutively. In the final, they met the later Austrian champions Krems, against whom they lost the final 19:23.

 

 

Telekom Veszprém managed to win the Hungarian championship after finishing the regular season on second place. In the league final, we met with Szeged once again. On home court, we won with 11 goals, while in away we draw against them. With this, the “Építők” claimed their 26th Hungarian championship title.

Veszprém qualified for the Champions League Final4, where they managed to get past Kielce in the semifinal by three goals, while in the final, Vardar came out on top to claim the trophy.

Telekom Veszprém could not defend their title in the Hungarian Cup after losing to Szeged by one goal in Debrecen.
