The next Champions League games are coming this weekend. On Sunday, at 3 PM MVM Veszprém is playing with the Turkish Besiktas Jimnastik Kulubu.
Live broadcast on Sport 1.
Besiktas, the only team which has not gained any points yet, is coming to Veszprém, so Építők is facing an easy opponent. The game, however, will not be as easy as it seems since the team of Veszprém is missing two right back players. Captain László Nagy has a broken bone in his hand, while Christian Zeitz’s shoulder got injured last weekend in the game against Zagreb. Besides the injuries, the suspension of Momir Ilic made our game even harder. Fortunately, we ended up winning in the Croatian capital (
20:21) where only a few teams are able to win
according to Coach Xavi Sabate and Mirko Alilovic. Our team is still undefeated in the CL after three rounds, while our next opponent suffered defeat for the third time against Paris. We hope that we can continue the series of victories but we would also be satisfied with a draw.
Interestingly, we have not played against Besiktas before but we first played in the European Champion Clubs' Cup almost on the same day 33 years ago, on October 7, 1982; moreover our opponent team was a Turkish team, namely Istanbul Bankasi Yenisehir. The game ended with the victory of Veszprém (19:26) and our most productive player was József Végh, our current masseur. You can read about the game in detail in one of our
previous articles.
After seven attempts, the Turkish Besiktas finally had managed to qualify to the best teams of CL. Last year they were able to win once against the Swedish Alingsas on home court. As captain Ibrahim Demir says, their main aim is to learn and experience in this tournament. New signings of the 11-time Turkish champion and Cup winner team are the following: Nemanja Pribak (Vardar Skopje), Miroslav Kocic (Vojvodina), Mehmet Demirezen (Ankara BSB Spor) and Darko Djukic (Metalurg Skopje). Players who left are the following: Bulent Erkol (Trabzonspor), Oguzhan Buyuk (Bahcesehir SK), Viktor Ladyko (end of career), Erwin Jan Feuchtmann Perez (Lemgo) and Yunus Ozmusul (Bittenfeld); the greatest loss of the team is the Chilean player signed for Bundesliga.
Besides their 10-goal defeat against PSG (30:40), they were defeated by Celje (24:30) in the first round and by Kiel in their second game (31:21). Their most productive player has been the right back Döne Ramazan with his 19 goals.
Since the Turkish team cancelled their reserved seats, some tickets are still available for the fans of Veszprém on
jegymester.hu or at the cashier’s desk of the Arena if not sold out.
