Foreshadow: Vardar – Veszprém

MVM Veszprém has travelled to Skopje and is going to play against Vardar in the first game of CL quarter final on Saturday, at 4 pm. Live broadcast on Sport1.

 

 

Coach Xavi Sabaté and his three players consider the upcoming game as one of the hardest, if not the hardest and most important matches of this season. The teams have played against each other for 3 times this season and according to Péter Gulyás, both teams can still reveal new strategies. The first two games in the SEHA League regular season ended with a draw and the final of the tournament was also tight but the team of “Építők” gained a two-goal victory (28:26) even if the Macedonian team turned out to be better in the first part. But MVM Veszprém was able to decrease the gap like they did during the Hungarian Cup final against MOL-Pick Szeged. This is why László Nagy said in his interview that their “will to struggle is unquestionable”.

 

Vardar Skopje ended up in the 3rd place of CL Group “B” lagging behind Barcelona and Kielce. This was followed by the victorious 1/8 final against Wisla Plock. The first game ended with a draw (30:30) in Poland, while in the rematch the home team won in Macedonia with one goal (25:24). In the CL their most productive player is Timur Dibirov with 69 scores.

 

 

Alem Toskic, who is spending his last year at Vardar, said that Veszprém is the possible winner since they have been giving excellent performance in the past few years but he thinks that his team can gain good achievements. He believes that they have a good chance for victory against the Hungarian team but first they have to give outstanding performance during both matches. He said that if they play according to their expectations, they can qualify.

 

Veszprém and Vardar have been opponents for 12 times; besides the 2 matches ended with a draw, 8 games ended with Hungarian victory, while the Macedonian team won only twice. In the Champions League the team of Veszprém could win in all of the four games.

MVM Veszprém arrived in Skopje after noon, then the players were analyzing videos and were training. In the morning after breakfast they are analyzing videos again, having some rest and going to the venue of the match at 2 pm. The game against Vardar starts at 4 pm. After the match, the team is travelling back to Hungary.

 

More than 100 fans travelled to the Macedonian capital to support their favorite players during this important match.
