Foreshadow: Szeged – Veszprém

The Hungarian Championship playoff’s all-out match will be held on 21, May (Saturday) at 3PM between MOL-Pick Szeged and MVM Veszprém. This will be the last championship match for both teams and according to this year’s system and to the position on the table of both teams we can say that this match will decide who will be the 2016 champion. In this year there is no final which lasts for two victories like in last year but the team which performs better in the play-off, will be the champion. This will be the last match in the playoff both for Veszprém and Szeged. According to the current points, it is sure that the two rivals will share on the first two places. On the website of the Hungarian Handball Federation the followings can be read:

 

In case Veszprém gathers 1 or 2 points, they will be on the top of the playoff’s table and win the championship.

If Szeged wins the match, the two teams will have the same points. In this case, according to the tender, the goal difference between the teams will decide. As Veszprém won on home court for 30:29, Szeged needs a 2-goal victory if they want to win the gold medal.

If Szeged will have only a 1-goal victory, the playoff’s overall goal difference will decide and in this case Veszprém will be the champion.

However, the players of MVM Veszprém do not want to count the points and as it turned out from yesterday’s statements, Coach Xavi Sabaté and his team wants to win on Saturday. Almost 300 fans will accompany the “Építők”.

 

It was on 26, Oktober in 2013 when Veszprém was last defeated by Szeged with only 1 goal in the regular season of the championship. Since then 937 days have passed. It would be great if this series would continue on Saturday. It would also mean that Veszprém would celebrate its 24th Championship Title. But a very hard game is still in our way. Go for it, Veszprém!
