Telekom Veszprém plays Match of the Week on Sunday as they travel to Stade Pierre de Coubertin to face Paris Saint-Germain in the VELUX EHF Champions League. The game starts at 5:00 p.m. and Sport 1 broadcasts live from 4:30 p.m.
We are pretty familiar with PSG because we played against them in almost every year. Last season we played against each other 3 times from which none turned out to be in our favor. The French side made our history even, just by winning all 3 encounters from last year. We played 9 games against each other so far and we won 4 while Paris also won 4 and there is a draw too, from 2015. We lost both of our group games against them last year, once by only 1 goal (28:29) at home, and then by 4 goals (28:24) there. For the 3rd time we faced them in the semi-final of the Final4 last June and again lost by only 1 goal. The final result of that game was (26:27).
Paris currently sits on 2nd position in the group by winning 5 games out of 6 and losing one. Only Flensburg could beat them yet, but the French won all other games confidently. Their top scorer is Uwe Gensheimer with 38 goals while behind hime Sander Sagosen comes with 33 goals.
Montpellier leads the Lidl Starligue, behind them come Nimes, and surprisingly, Paris is only at the 3rd position in their championship. PSG and Nimes has the same record this year, 8 games, 7 wins and a loss. While we are taling about Nimes, the little French team shocked PSG by beating them in the last round on Wednesday 26:24. That is not so nice of a preparation for the clash of the weekend.
Paris signed 3 new players for this season. Sander Sagosen came from Aalborg, Rodrigo Corrales signed from Wisla Plock and Jovo Damjanovic arrived from El Jaish. Departed players include our William Accambray, besides him Xavier Barachet, Dylan Garain, Jeffrey M’tima and Gorazd Skof left the club.
The last time “Építők” played was in the K&H League, in Balatonfüred, and won by a huge margin. The final result was 25:39. In the Champions League Veszprém beat Aalborg a week ago by 6 goals. The back-to-back clash against PSG will determine who will finish at the top of the group. The boys are determined to keep the unbeaten streak going and will do anything to stay at the top of the group.
Let’s go Veszprém!
