Telekom Veszprém will close this VELUX EHF Champions League season’s group phase against PGE Vive Kielce on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The game will be broadcasted by Sport 1.
The two teams have met right in the first round, which was won by Telekom Veszprém in a close and exciting game, ending in 29:27. The home victory was mainly thanks to Árpád Sterbik’s flawless performance, which was highlighted by the guest team’s head coach, Talant Dujshebaev as well: “Today Árpád Sterbik was the best keeper of the world as always. He made the biggest difference of this game.” Besides Sterbik, Dragan Gajic played well too, by scoring six goals. The top scorer of that game from the guests was Alex Dujshebaev who scored ten times.
Kielce is leading the PGNIG Superliga with four points in front of Wisla Plock. Our next opponent scored the most goals in the league so far, 749 in twenty games. Last time they played was on Tuesday, when they achieved a confident, 22:39 victory over Kwidzyn. The top scorer of the team in the domestic league is Arkadiusz Moryto, who scored 121 goals in 19 games.
In the Champions League, Kielce is currently on fifth position with the same amount of points as Löwen. Our of their thirteen games they won seven times and lost six times, just like in the last two rounds, first against Montpellier, and in the last round against Löwen. Reasonably fresh news from our opponent, is that their captain, Michal Jurecki needs surgical attention on his broken metacarpus and will definitely miss Saturday’s game. Their top scorer in the European cup series is Alex Dujshebaev with 67 goals.
The “Építők” played on Tuesday in the Hungarian league, just like Kielce, at home. The opponent was DVTK-Eger who Veszprém managed to beat by scoring the most goals this season, 45:31. Their last game in the Champions League was against Meshkov Brest, against whom a half of good performance was just enough and won 28:20.
The game against PGE Vive Kielce will be important regarding the fight for the second place in the group. If we collect one point we will continue the CL from the second place and will face Portuguese Sporting CP. If we do not manage and finish third, we will face the sixth placed team from group B – either Motor Zaporozhye or PPD Zagreb – for the eight final. The tickets to Poland were taken according to the stakes and more than 350 Veszprém Fans will travel to Poland with the team to support them. Thank you for your support, we wish you safe travels and a good game!
Let’s go Veszprém!
