PGE Vive Kielce hosts Telekom Veszprém in the VELUX EHF Champions League on Sunday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcasted by Sport 1 from 6:30 pm.
Kielce do not have a place in the hearts of the Hungarian fans although the Polish-Hungarian friendship is world famous. The reason for that is the last time we met in the final of the Champions League in 2016. We all know how that ended. Before that, we played against them in 2012 and Kielce won that game too, in Veszprém with the result being 21:24. The history of the 2 team is 7 games: 5 Hungarian victories along 2 Polish wins.
In the last CL season, our opponent failed to go further than the best 16. Surprise team Montpellier knocked the defending champion out of the competition early. Their top scorer in the series last year was Julen Aguinagalde with 78 goals.
Kielce’s start of the new season was a bit bumpy. They currently take place at the 5th position of group B with 1 victory, 2 defeats and 1 draw. However, they beat THW Kiel by 11 goals, which proves that the Polish side cannot be underestimated. Their top scorer so far is Karol Bielecki with 19 goals.
The Polish Ekstraklasa is led by Kielce. They are in the top position in group A by winning 7 games out of 7. Behind them closely is Zabrze with one loss out of 7 games.
Our opponent signed 5 new players for the season 2017/18. Blaz Janc came from Celje, Marko Mamic signed from Dunkerque, Alex Dujshebaev followed his father from Vardar Skopje while Szymon Sicko arrived to Kielce from Chrobry Glogów. Daniel Dujshebaev also signed with Kielce over the summer but he was loaned to Celje for 2 years. Tobias Reichmann left the club to Melsungen while Piotr Chrapowski left to Magdeburg.
The “Építők” played in the K&H League last time on Tuesday where they beat FTC by 19 goals on home court. In the Champions League, they beat THW Kiel last time also on home court. The team has a 10 game winning streak and we certainly hope that the boys can keep their flawless streak going after Sunday as well.
Let’s go Veszprém!
