THW Kiel will host Telekom Veszprém in the EHF Champions League on Wednesday at 18:45. The game will be broadcasted live by Sport 1.
Veszprém can turn the history between the teams to their own favor, because both teams won ten games against each other so far in the European Cup series. The difference between the teams, is only seven goals to Kiel. We were in the same group last year as well, and unfortunately we lost both games during this phase. At home, we suffered a serious, 31:37 victory, while the away game was a lot closer, we still lost 29:28. In the Veszprém Arena, Yahia and Nilsson lead the team with five goals each, while in Germany, Nilsson reached five goals again, but now with Borozan on his side with the same amount.
Kiel played four games so far in Group B in the Champions League, out of which they won three and lost only once. They collected six points which put them on fourth position on the table, trailing by two points to us and Barcelona, furthermore Aalborg, who are ahead by one game. They managed to beat Zagreb, Celje and Aalborg, and lost against Nantes in Kiel by 27:35. Their top scorer in Europe is the newcomer Sander Sagosen with 26 goals.
Our upcoming opponent is through with five games in the Bundesliga, from which they won four matches and lost one so far against Wetzlar on 10 October, 31:22. With this performance they are on third position in the classification, but before them Flensburg and Löwen have the same amount of points. They played against Nordhorn last Saturday and won 29:35. The top scorer in the domestic league is Niclas Ekberg, but not only the team’s, he leads the entire Bundesliga with 39 goals.
The roster of the German champions did not change so much this summer, as only two new players came, with only three people leaving the club. The new players are: Sander Sagosen from PSG, and Sven Ehrig from Altenholz. On the departing side, there are Ole Rahmel, Lukas Nilsson and Fynn Malte Schröder. During the season, injuries made Kiel’s job harder, so they signed the Swedish talent Oskar Sunnefeldt, to substitute Nikola Bylik for example.
Telekom Veszprém did not play any games last week, due to the four positive cases of COVID in the squad. Their last match was played on 17 October against Gyöngyös, where they achieved a ten-goal victory of 25:35. In the Champions League Celje was welcomed in Veszprém Arena and left with a big difference loss of 39:24.
Let’s go Veszprém!
