Foreshadow: Kiel – Veszprém

The long awaited Champions League Final 4 has come and MKB-MVM Veszprém is going to fight against THW Kiel in the semi-final as last year. The game will take place on Saturday, at 6 pm in the Lanxess Arena, Cologne. Live broadcast on Digi Sport1.

 

 

We mainly have bad memories with the team of THW Kiel since the German team, against which we could win 4 stake games out of 10, impeded our qualification into Final 4 two years ago and then our qualification into the final last year. Considering, moreover, all of the matches played against them, we won only 6 out of 20.

 

Kiel could win the national championship with difficulty but this year the team plays confidently in the hope of Bundesliga victory, however according to the table the Germans have a draw and three defeats.

 

Last year they were defeated by the Flensburg in the final. This year they were the most successful in their group, besides the fiasco in Zagreb. Then, they took revenge and easily defeated Flensburg. It was, however, followed by a defeat by MOL-Pick Szeged in an away game but in the home game they could qualify.

 

 

Some players of the former squad signed to the CL rival. Christian Zeitz came to Veszprém, while Sigurdsson and Jallouz went to Barcelona. They were replaced by outstanding players: Duvnjak, Weinhold, and Canellas soon became important player. Besides them, two other young players arrived: the left wing Dahmke, and the goalkeeper Sonne.

 

According to Ortega and the players whom we made interview with, both teams have strengthened since last year. The atmosphere in Cologne along with the media and the whole event are not unfamiliar for us anymore so we hope that we can fully concentrate on the Final 4 itself.

 

 

As the team always aims to win, it is not surprising that our dream is to reach the highest level in handball world and win the Champions League. The last but one step is the game on Saturday, at 6. The bronze match will take place on Sunday, at 3:15 pm, then the final game at 6 pm. Of course we want to play in the latter game on Sunday!
