On Saturday, at 6:30 PM SG Flensburg-Handewitt is going to host MVM Veszprém in the Champions League’s last but one group round. Live broadcast on Sport1.
This game will decide the first three places of the group since the German team and PSG are the top teams with 20 points, while the team of “Építők” has gained 19 points in Group A so far. Flensburg is going to play against PSG in the last round.
When playing in Veszprém in autumn, the German team suffered defeat in an incredible match (28:24). Ilic was the most productive one with his 9 goals, while László Nagy suffered hand injury. That victory was especially important for our team because we had a draw in Plock in the previous round and the German team gained a 7-goal victory over PSG.
Since then, both teams have been giving 100% performance on home court and both of them suffered defeat in Kiel. Flensburg could win in Flensburg, Veszprém lost in Paris; our Saturday rival, however, has one more game against the French team left. There is a one-goal difference on the league table and the players of the undefeated Flensburg will try to keep it. Meanwhile, Plock is hosting PSG and is expected to gain the two points.
In the statements yesterday Veszprém’s Head Coach and players said that their aim is a victory. Coach Sabaté and Roland Mikler added that the goalkeepers’ performance is crucial. Although Flensburg’s most outstanding goalkeeper is Mattias Andersson, in their last CL match Kevin Moller contributed to his team’s victory in Celje.
Flensburg played on Wednesday and gained victory over Leipzig (35:28) in the Bundesliga. In the German Championship, they are currently in the 3rd place lagging behind Rhein-Neckar Löwen and THW Kiel. In their national championship Andreas Eggert is their most successful player who scored 105 goals out of 20 matches and is currently in the 7th place on the list. In CL the 34-year old Danish left wing is their top player; he has scored 64 goals in the most prestigious tournament (14th place).
The players of MVM Veszprém travelled to Hamburg and they still had a 2-hour bus ride to Flensburg. At 6:45 PM the team had training with Coach Sabaté. On Saturday morning, the boys are going to analyze videos, and then they are going to the venue of the game at 3:30 PM. At 6:30 PM, they are going to play against the winner of 2014 Champions League in Flens Arena with the capacity of 6000 spectators.
Both our team and Flensburg have gained three victories against each other so far. It is time to overtake them in the table of CL Group A.
