European Men’s Handball Championship, whose title defender is France, has begun with the matches of the “A” and “B” group. Hungary begins the tournament on Saturday at 6 PM in the game against Montenegro being in the “D” group whose matches will take place in Gdansk. The games of our national team will be broadcasted on channel M4, while some of other matches can be seen on Sport1 or Sport2.
The stakes are high for the players of Coach Talant Dujsebajev because in case of giving great performance, we have the chance to get into the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. For this purpose there are steps to follow:
- In case of winning the European Championship or ending up as a runner-up, we would qualify for the Olympic Games automatically.
- In order to get into the qualifying tournament of the Olympics, only one of the following countries may overtake us: Macedonia, Serbia, Iceland, Belarus, Norway, Sweden, Russian, and Montenegro.
As we informed you, our team is going to play against Montenegro first, then against Russia on Monday, 6 PM. In the last round, our opponent team will be the runner-up of the European Championship Denmark on January 20, at 8 PM.
The first three teams from each group get into two groups of the semi-final. Our points gained in the games against our opponents in the first round will be taken to the next group round. In the second round, we would play against the first three teams of the “C” group, and then we can fight for the 5th – 8th place or the the final game.
MVM Veszprém will be represented by the following players: László Nagy, Gergő Iváncsik, Timuzsin Schuch, and Roland Mikler. A total of 10 players from Veszprém have travelled to the tournament in Poland.
