Foreshadow: Celje – Veszprém

 

RK Celje Pivovarna Lasko will host Telekom Veszprém on Saturday at 18:00 in Zlatorog Arena, Slovenia.

 

 

Celje defended its title in the Slovenian championship, after finishing first in the regular season and qualified for the playoffs. Out of 22 games, they won 19 and lost three times against Ribnica, Trebnje and Jeruzalem Ormoz. On the playoff they played 32 games and won 26 times, while losing three times and finished in a draw three times. Their biggest rival, Gorenje Velenje finished on second place trailing by six points.

 

Last Champions League season Celje participated in Group B, where they finished the group phase on last place. They won only three games and draw once, while losing ten times. For much surprise they could defeat the German champions Flensburg, then later Motor Zaporozhye and Zagreb, but this was not enough to qualify for the best 16.

 

 

Celje played against Magdeburg in a friendly game and lost 36:34 to the Germans. After that, they participated in a friendly tournament, on which they finished second. First, they beat Malmö 29:23, then won against Schaffhausen 27:21. In the final, they met Magdeburg once again, and suffered a serious defeat 32:21. 

 

The “Építők” played against Bregenz on Wednesday in a preparation game in Veszprém Arena. The game brought a confident 38:19 victory for Veszprém out of which Manuel Strlek scored seven times, while Petar Nenadic finished with five goals.
