2017. Sep. 15. Friday, 12:30
Telekom Veszprém travels to Slovenia where RK Celje Pivovarna Lasko hosts them in the first VELUX EHF Champions League game of the new season. The game starts at 5:30 p.m. but Sport 1 will broadcast live from 5 p.m.
The new CL series kicks off again. The opponent will be a familiar face as we meet Celje every year. Last season we played against them in
replica watches the SEHA League twice and we have already met them this August in our Handball City Festival tournament. In the first round of the 2016/2017 season of SEHA League we played in Slovenia and won 34:29. In the second leg at home the result was a 32:25 win for us. On our own tournament we beat them again, this time the result was 29:27. In European cup series we faced each other 12 times and won 10 out of them while losing only once and ending one game in a draw.
Celje did not perform well last season in the Champions League because they have finished on the 7th place in the group and failed to qualify for the best 16. Just like they could not succeed in the last 4 years neither. Three wins, three draws and eight losses – that is how they finished the group last year.
The Slovenian champion will play in the SEHA League again this year and will join the domestic championship for the playoffs. They already played 3 games in the south-east handball league. In the opening round they beat Slovenian rival Gorenje Velenje but after that they lost in the second round against Meshkov Brest. In the latest round they beat Tatran Presov by one goal. With that win they have 2 wins and 1 loss in 3 games.
Lots of new players came to Celje. Igor Anic, Branko Vujovic, Daniel Dujshebaev, Jan Jurecic, Aljaz Panjtar, Luka Mitrovic and from the youth team Domen Makuc and Gregor Ocvirk. There are some big names on the moving side such as Blaz janc, Miha Zarabec or Luka Zvizej.
“Építők” played their last game in Orosháza in the K&H League and won it 21:40.
Telekom Veszprém will be accompanied by around 1300 supporters from Hungary to cheer the team to victory in the Zlatorog Arena.
