MVM Veszprém is facing one of its most important, if not the most important, match which is going to be held in Germany this weekend. The team is going to play against SG Flensburg-Handewitt at 5:30 PM, on Saturday. The match will be broadcast by Sport 1. We asked Coach Xavi Sabaté, Cristian Ugalde, Roland Mikler and Andreas Nilsson about the upcoming game.
Xavi Sabeté: Everyone knows that Flensburg is one of the best teams in Europe, and in this season none of the teams was able to win in their home. In the first round, for example, they gained a confident 7-goal victory over PSG. Their injured players returned and their team has performed great lately, especially on home court. I think we are facing a great where everyone wants to play. We go there to win. The key to victory is the defense system and the goalkeepers’ performance, as always.
Cristian Ugalde: I think this game will be a hard one. Flensburg is a great team and this game is extremely important for both teams in respect of group winning. Flensburg is going to play against PSG in the last round so none of the teams can play safe. Moreover, in case of losing a game, we might end up in the 3rd place and this would make our situation harder for the knock-out round. So we need 100% performance. We need a good defense system which our game is based on and if we play well we can score easy goals and gain victory.
Roland Mikler: Flensburg is in excellent form. Needless to say, their team has great wings. I think loosing balls would cause us problems because they would take advantage of those. They have a great goalkeeper who cooperates with the defensive wall amazingly, very often analyses videos so we have to shoot variedly. We are facing a difficult game in Flensburg but this victory is not impossible. I think we can benefit from the tight endgame against Zagreb since this match might end with a 1-goal difference. I can say that our team is ready for this upcoming match.
Andreas Nilsson: Of course we expect the two points from ourselves, which requires a victory. But we know that it won’t be easy. Flensburg always gives excellent performance on home court and their enthusiastic fans support them in the Arena, but despite all of that I believe we have the chance to win. We trained hard this week; we are prepared so we have to perform well in order to gain the two points. I personally like playing in Flens Arena because – as far as I remember – I almost always won there with my team, we have been defeated only once.
