First of all congratulations to your contract with Telekom Veszprém! How does it feel?
Thank you. It feels good, of course, to know what I am going to do in the future and to have a vision in Veszprém, where I want to be for a couple of years.
What were the main reasons of your decision to join Telekom Veszprém?
The main reason is that Veszprém is a good team with great fans. If you want to give in, give in. But if you want to win something big, the chances are big in Veszprém for that. I see big potential in the team. That was one thing. The other thing is my private life, I think this way I will have more time for my family.
You were in Veszprém several times. What did you experience here? Do you have any special memory in connection with Veszprém from the past?
Yes, I have been in Veszprém several times and it is always hard to play there. They always have great support from the fans. It is not easy to play against Veszprém, that is what I remember now. The biggest thing is that every time you come and play it is very loud in the arena so the fans are very good.
What do you think about the team and club of Telekom Veszprém and what about the city, the country and culture around the club?
The team is one of the best teams in the world and the city is a small city but nice. And the country, well, I do not know so much about the country. I have been in Budapest lots of times, and I love Budapest. I love the food and there are great wines also. But about the culture and the country I have to learn more in the future.
What are your expectations and goals with your new team for the next season?
My key as a coach is to always win. I do not like losing so I want to win everything, always.
What will be the main changes you want to make on the team?
I cannot talk about changes right now because I have respect for my colleague, Xavi Sabate. I will talk about changes when it is time. In the summer.
You will be the head coach of the Hungarian national team. What would you like to achieve with Hungary?
As the coach of the national team I also have a big expectation for myself. I would like to take the Hungarian team forward. How? That is also a thing for the future.
What are the main philosophies of your coaching and leadership?
I have pretty straight lines on how I like to work. The most important is that we work as a team. If you work as a team you have to have discipline and respect for each other and you have to have fun when you play. Leadership is a complicated thing. I like leadership, I like working with a group of people and I like that this group of people are aiming for the same thing.
You had great successes as player and coach, as well. Which ones are you the proudest of?
As a player I won a lot and that is great of course but as a coach you have the responsibility alone. If you fail, you fail. If a player fails, the coach fails. It is always the coach who has to have a solution. I am very proud of everything that I have done. Maybe I lose but the team wins, that is my philosophy.
What is more difficult, being a player or a coach? And why?
It is more difficult to be a coach because as a coach you have to think about so many things to be able to win. A player has to go home, sleep, train and come to the game and play good as the coach said. But the coach has to make a strategy, analyze the game, the opponent and our own game. A coach has to train and coach in the game and in the trainings. Then you start the work again directly after the match.
Please share with us some things about your private life, your family, hobbies, etc.
I have a wife, Maria, we have been together for a very long time. We have a family with two kids. As a hobby I like to cook, every kind of food. I really like being in the kitchen and mix food and taste wine. This is how I get away from work, cooking and tasting, I love it.
Finally, what is your message to the Veszprém-fans?
When I start working with Veszprém I will give my heart for them and I will do anything to have success together.
