Fight for the Super Cup against Szeged

The time which we have been looking forward has come, and from now on Veszprém plays official games. The first match takes place in Győr where they aim to win the prestigious trophy. After the victory of last year, Veszprém clashes with Szeged again. Veszprém fans are eagerly waiting for the game so much so that all tickets were taken before the game.

 

 

As Coach Ortega said in his statement, however, it is not going to be an easy task for the team since Szeged must have been preparing hard for the derby. Gaining a trophy is also a big motivation for them, moreover only this game determines the final result.

 

In the final game last year – which was organized in Veszprém – we finally ended with a 9-goal victory mostly thanks to our excellent defence system. Gasper Marguc became the best player of the game, while Roland Mikler was the best goalkeeper.

 

During the summer, there were some changes in both teams. The 26-year-old Brazilian left back, Thiagus Petrus (for 2+1 years) signed to Szeged and the former captain, Attila Vadkerti was replaced by the 33-year-old Serbian left wing, Marko Csuruvija (for 1+1 year). It is important to mention that the playmaker, Niko Míndegía is back after his injury.

 

In the preparation period, Mol-Pick Szeged took part in the 6-team Kanizsa Cup, where the team ended up in the second place, after being defeated by Vardar Skopje in the final (19:22). (The game was suspended in the 58th minute because the sport hall got wet.)

 

 

As mentioned earlier, the Icelander playmaker Aron Pálmarsson and the Croatian left back, Ivan Sliskovic signed to the team of Veszprém.

 

Besides two friendly games (Wangen, Westwien), we had great achievements in the preparation tournaments: we defended our title in Sparkassen Cup defeating THW Kiel, and we gained triumph in EuroTournoi in Strassbourg where we won against PSG in the final.
