“Everybody is looking forward to this match the most”
− You also played football and ice hockey at a young age. How did you decide to stay in handball?
− I played ice hockey from a young age and I also loved to play football, however nearly all my friends played handball. Once I joined their training session, and I stayed there.
− What would you say to the current young generation? Why is it beneficial to choose handball?
− Like in all team sports, the community is everything. You can make new, even lifelong friendships. At a young age, it should always be about having fun and enjoying yourselves.
− What would you do, if you weren’t a handball player?
− It’s a difficult question. Maybe I would be a policeman or something.
− Is this also a childhood dream of yours?
− Not really, this idea came to me about 5-6 years ago. When I finish my active career, maybe I will sign up for the necessary education. Just like in sports, I think I would really enjoy the community and the teamwork.
− You have been living in Hungary for a long while now. How do you like the Hungarian lifestyle?
− My wife and our two children have been living in Hungary for almost 8 years now. Basically, my life revolves around family and handball. Veszprém has developed a lot in the 8 years since we’ve been here, we really enjoy living here.
− What was the most peculiar thing you noticed, when you first moved to Veszprém?
− Prior to Veszprém, I have lived in two big cities, Göteborg and Hamburg. The first time it shocked me how smaller and calmer Veszprém is compared to the aforementioned big cities. Furthermore, I didn’t speak the language, I didn’t even know where to go shopping at first, so it was definitely a challenge in the beginning.
− What do you like most about Hungary?
− I really enjoy how it’s situated centrally in Europe. Lake Balaton is close, but also Budapest, Vienna and Bratislava or even Croatia, are all within driving distance. If and when we have a couple days off, we always travel with the family.
− In 2013, you won the EHF Champions League with Hamburg. Where do you think the club still has room for improvement, in order to achieve this dream?
− In the Final4, it’s all about the team’s and players’ current form. When we won the Champions League with Hamburg in 2013, everybody regarded us as the “dark horse”, but we won against teams who were stronger than us on paper. At times we arrived in Cologne with Veszprém as potential winners, and the loss against Kielce in the final, still haunts me to this very day. Our
− Szeged is coming to the Veszprém Arena on Sunday. You have played a lot of these derbies, tell us a little about the atmosphere.
− Our matches against Pick Szeged have always been special, as far as I can tell since I have been here. Naturally we feel the age-long rivalry between the two clubs and the tension between the fans. Everybody is looking forward to these two matches in the season, especially our home game. Playing an away game in Szeged is not ideal...
− What do you expect on Sunday?
− I expect a tough fight, as both teams will be playing and hoping to win. It will be a tight and even game like always but naturally, our aim is to keep the two points in Veszprém.
