This weekend MVM Veszprém succeeded in defeating PSG Handball, the top team of our group so our team is on top again. You can read about the glorious victory (28:20) in our previous article. This match is rightly said to be the best of the week but there were some other interesting games.
SG Flensburg-Handewitt (GER) - Orlen Wisla Plock (POL) 27:25 (13:11)
The match between the German and Polish team was open throughout the game; finally the home team gained their 6th victory in a row. In addition, they closed up to PSG so they have the chance to get into the best 16.
In the beginning of the first half, Flensburg started with a 5:2 lead, but then the game was equalized. The home team, however, gained a 2-goal victory. Both teams had an excellent defense system, the goalkeepers performed great.
In spite of the German leading in the second half, Plock did not let them win easily. The guest team did not give up even ten minutes before the end (24:20) so less than one minute before the end there was only a one-goal difference between the teams (26:25). However, they could not save Holger’s shot which decided the final result of the game.

HC PPD Zagreb (CRO) - Besiktas JK (TUR) 31:26 (14:11)
Zagreb had to play against Besiktas missing six key players. Stipe Mandalinic, Luka Stepancic, Josip Sandrk and Leon Susnja had been injured before, Domagoj Pavlovicot had to been taken to hospital a few hours before the match, and Sandro Obranovic was not able to play either. In spite of the difficulties, the home team started the game with a 5:0 lead thanks to the savings of Filip Ivic. This, however, was followed by an amazing performance of the guests’ goalkeeper who helped his team close up (11:10).
In minute 38 Horvat and Nincevic had a serious clash, the latter one was provided first aid and had to finish the game. Mostly individual actions led to goals, especially in the Croatian team which increased the gap with 6 goals (23:27). This meant a defeat for the Turkish team and a glorious victory for Zagreb.

RK Celje Pivovarna Lasko (SLO) - THW Kiel (GER) 23:23 (14:14)
Celje started the game better thanks to their strong defense, making use of Kiel’s mistakes (8:6). After Coach Gislason’s timeout, the game of “zebras” improved and had a 4:0 run. By the end, however, the home team could equalize.
After the break, Duvnjak and Weinhold led the Germans and continued the game with a 3-goal lead. The Slovenian team did not give up. The endgame was extremely tight; the home team seemed to win in the last minutes. By scoring his fifth goal 20 seconds before the end, Rune Dahmke decreased Celje’s chances for a home victory, even if Duvnjak was sent off with a red card.
