After the games of last weekend, we are halfway in the Champions League group round. Since the top team Paris Saint-German was able to win in Kiel, MVM Veszprém could not take back the lead through their victory in Celje but it still is in the 2nd place with a 1-point difference. You can read about our team’s victory in one our previous articles.
SG Flensburg-Handewitt (GER) - PPD Zagreb (CRO) 28:27 (12:13)
The first game of this round was held in Flensburg on Wednesday; the winner of 2014 hosted the Zegreb. Following their defeat against Besiktas, the Croatian team seemed to be very motivated from the very beginning of the match so they had a 1-5 lead at the beginning with the five in a row goal of Pavlovic. The home team did not have an easy start but after the time out by Ljubomir Vranjes, their left back Kentin Mahe scored five goals and closed the gap to one goal.
In the second half, Flensburg played much more focused in attacks causing turnovers. Thanks to this performance, they had a 6:1 series (18:15). Zagreb did everything to reduce the gap again and had the great chance to equalize but they missed it in minute 56. Right before the end, Luka Stepancic twisted his right knee and probably has to recover for half a year. After an extremely tight endgame, the home team gained victory; their last goals were scored by the Croatian Kresimir Kozina.
Scorers:
Flensburg: Mahe 8, Svan Hansen 4, Toft Hansen 4, Jakobsson és Mogensen 3-3, Eggert és Wanne 2-2, Kozina és Schmidt 1-1 Zagreb: Pavlovic 9, Stepancic 6, Kontrec és Obranovic 3-3, Markovic és Sebetic 2-2, Rakovic és Vujic 1-1
