Round 6 of the Champions League has demonstrated how strong “A” group is in which MVM Veszprém is playing. There were several tight games as well as many surprises.
The team of Veszprém travelled to Paris to fight for the group winning. Our players performed great, they had even the chance to gain points but they suffered a 2-goal defeat (29:27). It resulted in PSG getting into the first place. Further information is available in our previous article about that game.
THW Kiel (GER) - RK Celje Pivovarna Lasko (SLO) 35:32 (16:14)
The first game of this round was organized in Kiel, where the German team hosted the one-time winner Celje which has not been in a good form lately. The game went as expected, however there were many lost ball on both sides. The endgame of the first half was dominated by the goalkeepers’ performance which ended up with the home team decreased the gap.
In the second half the game was still led by the German champion but this was followed by a 10:3 strike of the Slovenian team. Landin did not seem to be effective. Then, he saved a fast break which turned out to be a turning-point of the match. Led by Dahmke and Duvnjak, “Zebras” continued the game with a 7:1 strike and win it.

It turned out to be true that PPD Zagreb plays with a completely different attitude at home. This time they were hosted by Besiktas. The guest team did not start the game well (11:11), the gap grew to 4 goals by the end of the first half. Demir performed great in the Turkish team (he saved a total of 11 shots); all in all Tolga Özbahar, Ramazan Döne and Predrag Dacevic were dominating.
The team of Veselin Vujovic was not able to reverse the result; Besiktas dominated the game, while the Croatian champion did not seem to be effective in offence. In the 40th minute there was a 5-goal gap between the teams and Zagreb could not catch up so Besiktas gained its first points in this CL season.

Flensburg played better in the first half and mostly thanks to Anders Eggert they reached a 4-goal lead. The German goalkeeper Mattias Andersson might be the best of the game; he saved 21 shots, including 3 penalties.
In the second half Plock supported by its amazing team appeared to revive. They equalized the result with the goal of Montoro (27:27). However, they caught up again thanks to the goals of Holger Glandorf and Rasmus Lauge and they did not let it slip through their fingers. They gained their 4th CL victory in this season. The coach of the guest team Ljubomir Vranjes said that he was not fully satisfied because they made many mistakes, but he is happy about the two points.
