The matches of the first group were held on Monday. Surprisingly, Norway lost point against Macedonia because they ended the game with a draw (31:31). In the other game the host team of Poland gained a 5-goal victory over Belarus making their dream of main round come true.

The games of the second group were held on Tuesday. The first one was the game between Hungary and Spain. The Hungarian team performed its best in the tournament but the Spanish team managed to overtake and gained a 2-goal victory in the end. Among the players from Veszprém, László Nagy scored 9 goals, Gergő Iváncsik and Schuch Timuzsin scored once, while Roland Mikler ended up with 13 savings (33% effectiveness).
This match was followed by the Nordic derby between Denmark and Sweden which ended with a draw and to which Andreas Nilsson contributed with 5 goals.

The next day Hungary played again but unfortunately that was their last game in the European Championship. We suffered an 8-goal defeat against Sweden and ended the Championship in the 12th place. László Nagy scored 2 goals, while Schuch and Iváncsik ended with 1 goal. Mikler saved 6 shots. On the other side Andreas Nilsson scored once.
In the other match of the second group, Spain defeated Russia and qualified into the semi-final. Germany also got into the next round since they gained victory over Denmark even if they missed the injured Weinhold and Dissinger.

On the last day of the main round there were some surprising turns as well. After Belarus defeated Macedonia, Norway gained triumph over title defender France. The other surprise was the enormous 14-goal victory of Poland over our Southern neighbors (Sliskovic – 4 goals). As a result, Norway and Croatia are among the 4 best teams.
