Champions League Spring Season has begun. In Group A, the tournament has started with the game of PPD Zagreb and PSG Handball. It is always hard to win in the Croatian capital and it was no different this time, either. There were injured players on both sides; in Zagreb Stepancic, Sabljic, Sprem, Mihic and Sandrk had been injured, while in the team of Paris Barachet and Accambray could not play this time. Zagreb had a better start and took a 3-0 lead but Paris revealed its excellent defensive methods and took over (8-3). Despite that the guest team led the game with 8 goals, the home team was able to close up. In the end, however, goalkeeper Thierry Omeyer saved his team from losing points, thus Paris is still the top team in their group.

Out of the two games held on Saturday, MVM Veszprém gained victory over Besiktas in the away game which you can read about in our previous article. In the other match, Wisla Plock hosted Celje Pivovarna Lask and the home team could not lead the game even for a moment. The Slovenian team gave an outstanding performance and thanks to their goalkeeper, Gajic they could reduce the gap. The Polish team managed to equalize the result but the host team increased the gap and ended the first half with a 5-goal difference. The second half proceeded in the same way and Celje fought even harder. In the 39th minute they led the game with 10 goals but finished it with a 5-goal difference.

Flensburg-Handewitt hosted its big rival THW Kiel in the 11th round of Group A, and it was visited by 6000 spectators. Except for Mahe, the home team was preparing for the game with full squad, while on the other side there are many injured players: Patrick Wiencek, Rene Toft Hansen, Christian Dissinger and Steffen Weinhold could not take part in the tournament’s match. In the first half, both teams performed their best but then the “Zebras” made mistakes which resulted in a 2-goal difference. In the second half, Lauge turned out to be the most productive player causing troubles for the team of Kiel who asked for two time-outs. Flensburg gained the first 10-goal victory of its history. The two top players of the game were Lauge and Andersson.
