The European Handball Federation announced the seeding for the draw of the 2020/21 Champions League season. Telekom Veszprém is waiting for the draw from the first pot, alongside of PSG, Vardar and Barcelona.
This year’s draw will be a little different from the previous years, mainly because of the brand new format. This year, From each pot, two teams will be drawn into group A, while the other two will be in group B. Two teams from the same country cannot meet during the group phase.
The regulations of the new format states that after the end of the round robin group phase, the top two teams of each group will qualify directly to the quarterfinal, while the last two has to say goodbye to the series. The third, fourth, fifth and sixth teams will play against each other in a play-off format.
The pots are the following:
- pot: Telekom Veszprém (HUN), PSG Handball (FRA), HC Vardar 1961 (MKD), Barcelona (ESP)
- pot: THW Kiel (GER), PGE Vive Kielce (POL), Aalborg Handbold (DEN), FC Porto Sofarma (POR)
- pot: HC Meshkov Brest (BLR), HC Motor (UKR), HBC Nantes (FRA), MOL-Pick Szeged (HUN)
- pot: RK Celje Pivovarna Lasko (SLO), PPD Zagreb (CRO), Elverum Handball (NOR), SG Flensburg-Handewitt (GER)
The group phase draw will take place on Wednesday 1 July at 18:00 CEST in Vienna and will be streamed on ehfTV.com, the ehfTV YouTube channel and the EHF Champions League Facebook page.
